Tuesday of the Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time
Intention: For voters and candidates in the days before the November elections, that public debate be honest and attentive to the poor.
Today’s Gospel | Luke 13:18-21
Jesus said, “What is the Kingdom of God like? To what can I compare it? It is like a mustard seed that a man took and planted in the garden. When it was fully grown, it became a large bush and the birds of the sky dwelt in its branches.”
Again he said, “To what shall I compare the Kingdom of God? It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch of dough was leavened.”
From the First Meditation for the Time of Retreat | Saint John Baptist de La Salle
God wills not only that all come to the knowledge of truth, but also that all be saved. He cannot truly desire this without providing the means for it and, therefore, without giving children the teachers who will assist them in the fulfillment of his plan. This, says Saint Paul, is the field that God cultivates, the building that he is raising, and you are the ones whom he has chosen to help in this work by announcing to these children the Gospel of his Son and the truths that are contained in it.
Prayer
Eternal Father, your Kingdom grows like a mustard seed and works like yeast, quietly and from within. Give us patience with growth we cannot see. Let the small, daily work of teaching and caring for young people be enough for today. You bring the harvest; keep us planting. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
