From October 4-6, nineteen science educators from around our district gathered at Mont La Salle for a workshop. These job-alike gatherings are opportunities for people who work in similar subject areas across our institutions to come together to share strategies for common challenges, build community and deepen their understanding of the Lasallian mission and their part in it.
The heart of the experience is the resource and best pactice sharing, where each school is invited to present on a best practice within their curriculum. Best practices shared during this gathering ranged from how to build scientific literacy, to lab formats, to utilizing AI for feedback to build scientific writing skills. Kyle Voge, Physics and Computer Science teacher at La Salle Catholic College Preparatory said: “The science gathering was one of the better PD experiences I’ve had. A diversity of science teachers from around the district came together to share their best practices with each other, from general classroom policies to specific lessons. Everyone was very positive and contributed to a great experience. Also, it’s pretty hard to not enjoy yourself at Mont La Salle.”
Another highlight was the opportunity to join together for social and formation time. Andy Kuffner, Director of Formation for mission, who facilitated the gathering, offered a retreat centering on the importance of community in our Lasallian mission. There was also a shared social time with resident Brothers. A job-alike gathering for World Language instructors will be held in the spring.
