San Francisco New Orleans District (SFNO) schools Christian Brothers High School (CBHS) of Sacramento, CA and Saint Michael’s High School (SMHS) of Santa Fe, NM have announced the appointment of interim principals who will serve for the remainder of the 2022-23 school year.
Julian Elorduy has been named interim principal at Christian Brothers, and Brother James Joost, FSC, has been named interim principal at Saint Michael’s in Santa Fe, NM.
Elorduy’s appointment as Christian Brothers’ interim principal, effective December 5, 2022, was made by school president Dr. Crystal LeRoy. He succeeds former principal Annemarie Bacich. Elorduy had been serving as the school’s Assistant Principal of Student Life and Instruction.
Joining the CBHS faculty in August, 2015, Elorduy taught Religion until 2021 when he was appointed Assistant Principal. He chaired the Religion Department 2019-2021 and has been summer school director since 2020. Prior to arriving at CBHS, Elorduy served in several Sacramento elementary schools.
In making the announcement, Dr. LeRoy wrote, “Julian’s dedication and personal connection to CB, his understanding of our Lasallian Catholic identity, and his unwavering commitment to our students and community certainly rose to the top in the search process.”
Br. James’ appointment as Saint Michael’s interim principal, effective December 19, 2022, was announced by school president Tom Coughlin. He will succeed Dr. Arlana Kingsbury, who will transition from Interim Principal to Associate Principal for Faculty Formation. Br. James is currently responsible for the SFNO Brothers’ Healthcare programs and has been given permission by the Brothers’ leadership to step aside from that responsibility until summer, 2023.
From 2011 to 2022, Br. James served as Auxiliary Visitor, first for the former San Francisco District and then for SFNO. He also was Director of Vocation Ministry for the former San Francisco District for nine years. Prior to that, Br. James served at numerous schools in a variety of teaching and administrative roles from 1984 to 2011. He has also been a trustee on the governance boards of seven of our Lasallian schools.
About Br. James’ appointment, Coughlin stated, “Br. James looks forward to working with the fine group of dedicated administration, faculty and staff in further clarifying school operation in preparation for the next Principal.”
Both Christian Brothers High School and Saint Michael’s High School will be conducting searches for candidates for their permanent principals, with hirings scheduled to take place in the spring of 2023.
