Brother Superior General Armin Luistro, FSC has named San Francisco New Orleans District (SFNO) Brother Donald Johanson, FSC Executive Director of Financial Stewardship for the Institute. The announcement was made by SFNO Brother Visitor Nick Gonzalez, FSC.
In assuming this newly created position, Brother Donald will work with the Institute’s General Council to put into motion the Acts of the 46th General Chapter that involve patrimony and solidarity. He will be assigned to the Generalate in Rome.
Brother Donald is no stranger to being assigned to the Generalate. From 1998 to 2000, he worked there in Special Services for the General Chapter, and from 2000 to 2006 in Computer Services.
In regard to his new role, Brother Donald’s past leadership as Visitor, first of the former San Francisco District and then of the SFNO District, established his creative attentiveness to financial planning and practices on behalf of the Brothers and for the long-term financial sustainability of District ministries. In 2018, he launched SFNO’s Office of Sustainability in support of ensuring District schools’ financial ability to maintain their on-going accessibility, sustainability, and inclusiveness.
Because Executive Director of Financial Stewardship is a new role within the Institute, this was an unexpected development for Brother Donald, who has just completed an 11-year stretch as Visitor of both the San Francisco and SFNO Districts. As Brother Nick pointed out in his announcement, Brother Donald’s selfless acceptance of this assignment at this time serves as an example to Brothers and Lasallian Partners alike.
“Brother Donald is modeling radical availability for all of us,” Brother Nick wrote. “He was expecting to scale back and relax. Instead, a call came which required his unique experience and skill set. After prayer and discernment, Donald made himself available to fill a very real need in the Institute. He is walking the Gospel talk.”
Brother Donald, who currently resides in the Provincialate Community at Mont La Salle, anticipates relocating to Rome sometime in September.
