Fifth Sunday of Easter
Intention: For all the capitulants of General Chapter 46, that they may embrace with faith and zeal their time of special service to the Lasallian family and its worldwide mission.
Today’s Gospel | John 13:31-33A, 34-35
When Judas had left them, Jesus said, “Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him. If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and God will glorify him at once. My children, I will be with you only a little while longer. I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
From the Fourth Meditation for the Time of Retreat
In carrying out your service to children, you will not fulfill your ministry adequately if you resemble Jesus Christ only in his guidance and conversion of souls. You must also enter into his purposes and goals. He came on earth, as he said, only that people might have life and have it to the full. This is why he said, in another place, that his words are spirit and life. By this he meant that his words procure the true life, which is the life of the soul, for those who hear them and who, with gladness over what they have heard, act on them with love.
Prayer
Eternal Father, there is nothing good that we can do in our lives if we live apart from you. You are the beginning and the end of all meaning and purpose in the world. Help us to always remain faithful to your ways and determined to build your Kingdom. By the power of your grace, may we come to see you more clearly, love you more dearly, and follow you more nearly. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.
