          John Huelskamp

La Salle Catholic College Preparatory (LSCCP), Milwaukie, OR, has announced that John Huelskamp will be its new president, effective July 1, 2022.  The announcement was made by Shelley Larkins, chair of the school’s Board of Trustees.

Huelskamp is LSCCP’s fifth president and will succeed Andrew Kuffner, who is stepping down after a 26-year tenure at the school, the last four in the role of president.

“I am looking forward,” Huelskamp said, “to joining the gifted and dedicated staff as well as the larger La Salle community as we collectively author the next chapter in La Salle Prep’s story. The strong sense of community, faith, and service hold great appeal.”

Huelskamp is a 27-year veteran of primary and secondary education, and currently is principal of Sunset High School, Beaverton, OR.  No stranger to Lasallian schools, he was the founding principal of De La Salle North Catholic, Portland, OR, where he served 2002 – 2008.

In making the announcement to the LSCCP community, Larkins stated, “I am grateful to the Board of Trustees and the Search Committee – comprised of trustees, alumni, educators, and La Salle faculty and staff – for their work in finding La Salle a new president. We are confident Mr. Huelskamp will build upon the great work of La Salle leaders before him and lead us to promising days ahead.”

A native of Flint, Michigan, Huelskamp graduated in 1992 with a B.A. in History from University of Saint Thomas St. John Vianney College Seminary, St. Paul, MN, and in 1995 with an M.S. in Teaching from Southern Oregon State College, Ashland.
