Memorial of Saint Scholastica, Virgin
Intention: For all caregivers to the young, especially teachers, that they may be attentive to the Holy Spirit’s inspirations to work as bringers of strength and hope to all who they serve.
Today’s Gospel | Mark 7:24-30
Jesus went to the district of Tyre. He entered a house and wanted no one to know about it, but he could not escape notice. Soon a woman whose daughter had an unclean spirit heard about him. She came and fell at his feet. The woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by birth, and she begged him to drive the demon out of her daughter. He said to her, “Let the children be fed first. For it is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs.” She replied and said to him, “Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s scraps.” Then he said to her, “For saying this, you may go. The demon has gone out of your daughter.” When the woman went home, she found the child lying in bed and the demon gone.
From the Sixth Meditation for the Time of Retreat | St. John Baptist de La Salle
God uses the angels not only to deliver those entrusted to them from the powers of darkness and make them grow in the knowledge of God but also to help them lead a life worthy of God, so that they will be pleasing to him in every way and produce good works of every sort. The angels are zealous for the good of those in their care, because of the commission they have received from God, the Father of light and of all good. They contribute, as far as they are able, to make those in their care worthy to share the lot of the saints.
Prayer
Eternal Father, we find ourselves living in confused and divisive times. Help us to bring to one another the light of healing and unity that is your Word. As we proclaim your Good News, let your truth find its way into the hearts of all, especially those who are farthest from the peace of knowledge of you. May we be your ambassadors who help to bring a spirit of welcome and wholeness into our world. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
