Pentecost Sunday

Intention: That God will continue to bless us the Lasallian Family with opportunities to serve all persons, especially those most in need, and to strive to build a more compassionate and just world.

Today’s Gospel | John 20:19-23

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.”  When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side.  The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.  Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you.  As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”  And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.  Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.”

From the Meditation on Pentecost Sunday | Saint John Baptist de La Salle

You carry out a work that requires you to touch hearts, but this you cannot do except by the Spirit of God. Pray to him to give you today the same grace that he gave the holy Apostles. Ask him that after filling you with his Holy Spirit to sanctify you, he will also communicate himself to you to procure the salvation of others.

Eternal Father, your Son came to us to breathe life into our world.  May we always seek to know your life-giving presence and grace.  Help us to take the good things with which you fill us and use them to build your Kingdom, serving others by giving and emptying ourselves just as Jesus gave and emptied himself for us.  We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.  Amen.

Saint John Baptist de La Salle, prayer for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts forever.
