Intention: That we may be a people of life, speaking for the dignity and needs of all persons, especially the poor, the oppressed, the exploited, the misunderstood, and the forgotten.
Today’s Gospel | Luke 21:12-19
Jesus said to the crowd: “They will seize and persecute you, they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons, and they will have you led before kings and governors because of my name. It will lead to your giving testimony. Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand, for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute. You will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name, but not a hair on your head will be destroyed. By your perseverance you will secure your lives.”
From the Tenth Meditation for Time of Retreat | Saint John Baptist de La Salle
Consider that the purpose of the coming of the Son of God into this world was to destroy sin. This must also be the main purpose of the establishment of the Christian Schools and, therefore, the first object of your zeal. It must lead you to allow nothing in the children under your guidance that could displease God. If you observe in them something that offends God, you must immediately do all that you are able to remedy the problem.
Eternal Father, doing your will can take us on many challenging journeys. Along the way, there always will be times when we and what we do will be misunderstood. We pray for the faith to persevere through all of the setbacks that we may face. Fill us with a tireless devotion to doing right and to serving your people, especially those who are in need. Reassure and inspire us in our own moments of weakness and confusion, and send us forward to build your Kingdom. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
