Saturday of the Twenty-fifth Week in Ordinary Time

Intention:  For a spirit of conversion within all people, one that opens our hearts to the ways of God and the needs of his people, especially those who suffer the injuries of the world’s injustice.

Today’s Gospel | Luke 9:43b-45

While they were all amazed at his every deed, Jesus said to his disciples, “Pay attention to what I am telling you.  The Son of Man is to be handed over to men.”  But they did not understand this saying; its meaning was hidden from them so that they should not understand it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.

From the Ninth Meditation for the Time of Retreat | Saint John Baptist de La Salle

What ought to engage you further to have great zeal in your state is the fact that you are the ministers not only of God but also of Jesus Christ and of the Church. This is what Saint Paul says when he expresses the wish that everyone ought to regard those who announce the Gospel as ministers of Jesus Christ, who write the letter that he has dictated, not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, which are the hearts of children.

For this reason and in this spirit, you must have the love and the glory of God as your single aim in the instruction of these children, for the love of God ought to impel you, because Jesus Christ died for all, so that those who live might live no longer for themselves but for him who died for them. This is what your zeal must inspire in your disciples, as if God were appealing through you, because you are ambassadors for Jesus Christ.

Eternal Father, as ambassadors of your Son, we are asked to proclaim the Gospel through our words and especially our actions.  Like your Son, we must be ready to give our entire selves over to the building of your Kingdom.  Bless us with the courage and the resilience to do this.  May your will find its way into the world through us and bring wholeness to all, especially those persons who are most in need of healing.  We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.

Saint John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts forever.
