Thursday of the Twenty-fifth Week in Ordinary Time
Intention: For a spirit of conversion within all people, one that opens our hearts to the ways of God and the needs of his people, especially those who suffer the injuries of the world’s injustice.
Today’s Gospel | Luke 9:7-9
Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening, and he was greatly perplexed because some were saying, “John has been raised from the dead”; others were saying, “Elijah has appeared”; still others, “One of the ancient prophets has arisen.” But Herod said, “John I beheaded. Who then is this about whom I hear such things?” And he kept trying to see him.
From the Fourteenth Meditation for the Time of Retreat | Saint John Baptist de La Salle
Do you believe, perhaps, that you are responsible for your disciples only during the time of school, that your vigilance need not extend to their behavior outside of school in order to help them, as far as you are able, to live everywhere in a Christian manner and not associate with bad companions during the entire time they are under your guidance?
To give an account for their souls means to give an account of everything that concerns their salvation; to watch exactly means to watch over everything with diligence, omitting and neglecting nothing.
Prayer
Eternal Father, you make yourself known to us in so many different ways, yet often we still fail to recognize you at work in our lives. Help our poor faith. Open our senses to your presence both within and outside of us. As we make our way through this day, may we embrace every opportunity to do your will, proclaiming through our actions the good news of your saving love for all of us. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
