Feast of Saints Simon and Jude, Apostles
Intention: That the darkness of stigma, exclusion, and marginalization might be dispelled by the light of compassion, respect, and welcome for every person as a child of God.
Today’s Gospel | Luke 6:12-16
Jesus went up to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God. When day came, he called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles: Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called a Zealot, and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
From the Meditation on the Feast of the Apostles Saints Simon and Jude | Saint John Baptist de La Salle
It is not enough for you to be true servants of Jesus Christ; you are further obliged to make him known and adored by the children whom you instruct. The care you must have for your own perfection ought to lead you to do this.
Prayer
Eternal Father, you taught us that you desire mercy, not sacrifice, and faithfulness to your ways rather than burnt offerings. Awaken us to our self-righteousness when we place our own pieties above serving others and doing justice in our world. Through your grace, may we have the courage and humility to embrace and serve one another each day. We pray that we will be willing and worthy instruments of your divine love. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
