Memorial of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, Priest

Intention: For all who have been entrusted with the responsibilities of leadership and governance, that they always will work for peace and justice for all people.

Today’s Gospel | Matthew 13:44-46

Jesus said to his disciples: “The Kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.  Again, the Kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls.  When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.”

From the Meditation on Saint Ignatius of Loyola | Saint John Baptist de La Salle

Your work will be of little value if you do not have as your purpose the salvation of souls.  Does your zeal for the poor lead you to seek ways as effective as those used by Saint Ignatius?  The more ardently you pray for the good of the souls entrusted to you, the more God will help you find the skill to touch their hearts.

Prayer

Eternal Father, the grace of your presence and love is with us always.  Yet, sometimes we live as if it was not.  In those times when we fail to recognize you in our midst, open our eyes and minds to you.  When we fail to learn and follow your ways, strengthen our faith and our hearts.  Your Kingdom awaits the work of our hands so that we may know its fullness in our world.  Bless us with zeal to do your will.  We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.  Amen.

Saint John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts forever.
