Wednesday of the Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Intention: For God’s blessings on the participants and staff at the Kitson Institute for Formation of Lasallian Volunteers.

Today’s Gospel | Matthew 13:1-9

On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea.  Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood along the shore.  And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow.  And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up.  Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil.  It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots.  Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it.  But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. Whoever has ears ought to hear.”

From the Fifth Meditation for the Time of Retreat | Saint John Baptist de La Salle

This is what God has provided in giving children teachers whom he has charged with this care and to whom he has given the concern and the vigilance not only to prevent anything whatsoever harmful to their salvation from capturing their hearts but also to guide the children through all the dangers they meet in the world. The result will be that the devil will not even dare approach them, because they are under the guidance of these attentive leaders and under the protection of God.

Ask God today for the grace to watch so well over the children confided to you that you will take every possible precaution to shield them from serious faults.

Ask God to be such good guides for them, through the light that you will procure for yourselves by turning to God and by the fidelity with which you do your work, that you will see clearly every obstacle to the good of their souls and keep away from the path of their salvation everything that could harm them.

Prayer

Eternal Father, your Son taught that to truly know your gift of salvation, we must welcome and nurture it with open and faithful hearts.  Bless us with the determination to plow up the hard ground of our sinfulness.  Help us to be soil that receives and nourishes your will for us.  Inspire us to grow and bear fruit for your Kingdom through lives of humility, compassion, and justice.  We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.  Amen.

Saint John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts forever.
