Seventh Sunday of Easter
Intention: For all seniors who are graduating from Lasallian schools this year, that they may be blessed with fulfilling futures, living their lives as instruments of God’s loving and saving presence to the world.
Today’s Gospel | John 17:20-26
Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed saying: “Holy Father, I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me. And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me.
Father, they are your gift to me. I wish that where I am they also may be with me, that they may see my glory that you gave me, because you loved me before the foundation of the world. Righteous Father, the world also does not know you, but I know you, and they know that you sent me. I made known to them your name and I will make it known, that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them.”
From the Fifteenth Meditation for the Time of Retreat | Saint John Baptist de La Salle
God is so good that he does not leave unrewarded the good work that is done for him and the service that is rendered to him, especially for the salvation of souls. If it is true that God rewards so generously even in this world those who have left all things for him, that they receive a hundredfold in this life, with how much more reason will God reward even in this present time those who have devoted themselves with zeal to spread his kingdom!
…Oh, how fortunate you ought to consider it to be working in the field of the Lord, for our Lord says that the reaper will infallibly receive his reward!
For the future, then, be devoted with zeal and affection to your work, because it will be one of the most helpful ways to assure your salvation.
Prayer
Eternal Father, your Son’s commission to his disciples was to proclaim his good news so that that all people might come to know you and believe. We pray that we might use our lives to help move our world closer to being your Kingdom. Teach us to see and love each other better, to wash away selfishness and ignorance from our lives. May we walk with one another into the light of your healing and truth. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.
