Intention: That all who serve in the ministry of education devote themselves to giving care and attention to every student, especially those who are most in need, by teaching their minds and touching their hearts.
Today’s Gospel | John 12:44-50
Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me believes not only in me but also in the one who sent me, and whoever sees me sees the one who sent me. I came into the world as light, so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness. And if anyone hears my words and does not observe them, I do not condemn him, for I did not come to condemn the world but to save the world. Whoever rejects me and does not accept my words has something to judge him: the word that I spoke, it will condemn him on the last day, because I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. So what I say, I say as the Father told me.”
From the Third Meditation for the Time of Retreat | Saint John Baptist de La Salle
Because you are ambassadors and ministers of Jesus Christ in the work that you do, you must act as representing Jesus Christ. He wants your disciples to see him in you and to receive your instructions as if he were instructing them. They must be convinced that your instructions are the truth of Jesus Christ, who speaks with your mouth, that it is only in his name that you teach, and that he has given you authority over them.
They must also be convinced that they are a letter that Jesus Christ dictates to you, which you write each day in their heart, not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, who acts in you and by you through the power of Jesus Christ. He helps you triumph over all the obstacles that oppose the salvation of these children, enlightening them in the person of Jesus Christ to make them avoid all that could be displeasing to him.
Eternal Father, your Son calls us to faith in him and in you who sent him. We pray for clear minds and open hearts to see you and know you. Help us to recognize your presence in the kindness and comfort of others, and to share recognize your strength and healing through our respect and compassion for others. May our faith be everlasting and may we always stand secure in your love and in your mercy. Above all, may our faith allow you to lead us to where we need to be and with those whom we can serve. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
