The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

Intention: That we may be a people of life, speaking for the dignity and needs of all people, especially the poor, the oppressed, the exploited, the misunderstood, and the forgotten.

Today’s Gospel | John 18:33b-37

Pilate said to Jesus, “Are you the King of the Jews?”  Jesus answered, “Do you say this on your own or have others told you about me?”  Pilate answered, “I am not a Jew, am I?  Your own nation and the chief priests handed you over to me.  What have you done?”

Jesus answered, “My kingdom does not belong to this world.  If my kingdom did belong to this world, my attendants would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews.  But as it is, my kingdom is not here.”  So Pilate said to him, “Then you are a king?”  Jesus answered, “You say I am a king.  For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth.  Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.”

From the Sixth Meditation for the Time of Retreat

You share in the ministry of the Guardian Angels by making known to children the truths of the Gospel, which you have been chosen by God to announce. You must teach them how to put these truths into practice, and you must have very great zeal to procure their accomplishment of this practice.

Prayer

Eternal Father, you created us in your image of compassion and mercy.  Forgive us when we are not faithful, when we act without love.  Soften the hardness of our hearts and fill us with care for others and a desire to act justly.  Open our eyes to one another’s needs and pain, and move us to bring your healing and wholeness into our world. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.  Amen.

Saint John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts forever.
