Tuesday of the Twenty-ninth Week in Ordinary Time
Intention: For all who seek roles of leadership and advocacy in society, that their hearts and minds will be open to God’s wisdom and guidance.
Today’s Gospel | Luke 12:35-38
Jesus said to his disciples: “Gird your loins and light your lamps and be like servants who await their master’s return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival. Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself, have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them. And should he come in the second or third watch and find them prepared in this way, blessed are those servants.”
From the Eleventh Meditation for the Time of Retreat | Saint John Baptist de La Salle
Because you are substitutes for their fathers and mothers and their pastors, you are obliged to keep watch over these children as the ones accountable for their souls. So, if you do not watch over their conduct, you must realize that because these children are not able to guide themselves, you will render an account to God for the faults they commit, just as if you had committed them.
Prayer
Eternal Father, we often make the mistake of thinking that your presence can only be known apart from the daily grind of our lives. You are with us always, and your voice and touch are a part of everything that we know. On this day, we pray for the grace to always be prepared to welcome you into the busy-ness of our days, ready to greet and serve all in your name. Help us to make room in our hearts for you and all who come to us each day, especially those who are most in need. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
