Today’s Gospel | Matthew 13:10-17
The disciples approached Jesus and said, “Why do you speak to the crowd in parables?” He said to them in reply, “Because knowledge of the mysteries of the Kingdom of heaven has been granted to you, but to them it has not been granted. To anyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away. This is why I speak to them in parables, because they look but do not see and hear but do not listen or understand. Isaiah’s prophecy is fulfilled in them, which says: You shall indeed hear but not understand, you shall indeed look but never see. Gross is the heart of this people, they will hardly hear with their ears, they have closed their eyes, lest they see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their hearts and be converted and I heal them.
From the Meditation on Saint Anne | Saint John Baptist de La Salle
You received great graces from God when he withdrew you from the world and called you to a ministry devoted entirely to the salvation of souls. Are you consecrated to God in such a way that you have given up everything to think only of him and of the duties of your work? Do this from now on, at least, to be able to fulfill well so holy a ministry.
Eternal Father, your Son taught us about your Kingdom in ways that many people could not grasp. They had closed their minds and hearts to your ways and so were unable to understand. By the light of your patience, may we come to know your presence. By the sound of your voice, may we come to know your truth. Allow your word to take root in our hearts and be the work of our hands. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
