Let us rememberMonday of the Sixth Week in Ordinary Time

Intention: That we may nurture a culture of vocation that invites and inspires all Lasallians to discern how to live their lives as their best and truest selves.

Today’s Gospel | Mark 8:11-13

The Pharisees came forward and began to argue with Jesus, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him. He sighed from the depth of his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Amen, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.” Then he left them, got into the boat again, and went off to the other shore.

From the Second Meditation for the Time of Retreat | Saint John Baptist de La Salle

It is true that a number of doctrines are absolutely necessary for us to know in order to be saved, but what would it serve to know them if we did not take the trouble to practice the good to which we are bound?

Faith, Saint James says, without good works is dead. Saint Paul also says, If I knew all the mysteries and had full knowledge and all the faith such that I move mountains from one place to another but have not charity (that is, sanctifying grace), I am nothing.

Prayer

Eternal Father, there are many times when we want life to always meet our expectations and provide us with everything that we desire. We forget that we are here to do better and more significant things. Help us to choose humility over pride and generosity over greed. May we open our minds and hearts to your presence and accept that what is truly comes not from power or avarice, but from seeking your Kingdom first and above everything else. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.

Saint John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts forever.
