Wednesday of the Twenty-seventh Week in Ordinary Time
Intention: For the Brothers and Partners of Napa, and for all those who are being affected by the California wildfires, that God’s comfort and strength will be with them and sustain them.
Today’s Gospel | Luke 11:1-4
Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples.” He said to them, “When you pray, say:
Father, hallowed be your name, your Kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread and forgive us our sins
for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us,
and do not subject us to the final test.”
From the Eighth Meditation for the Time of Retreat | Saint John Baptist de La Salle
Like (the Apostles), you must also withdraw afterward to direct your attention to reading and to prayer, to learn thoroughly the truths and the holy maxims that you wish to teach, and through prayer to draw down God’s graces, which you need to do this work according to the Spirit and the intention of the Church, which entrusts it to you.
Prayer
Eternal Father, we thank you for your care and faithfulness to us. Thank you for answering when we call even, when we are slow to answer you. Thank you for giving when we ask, even when we hesitate when you ask of us Thank you for always remembering us, even when we are forgetful of you. We pray, soften our hardened hearts and open them to your presence. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
