Tuesday of the Twenty-seventh Week in Ordinary Time
Intention: For persons living in places of crime and violence, that through the world’s efforts, safety and peace and new promise for their futures will soon be theirs.
Today’s Gospel | Luke 10:38-42
Jesus entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. She had a sister named Mary who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me.”
The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.”
From the Second Meditation for the Time of Retreat | Saint John Baptist de La Salle
Because you are ambassadors and ministers of Jesus Christ in the work that you do, you must act as representing Jesus Christ. He wants your disciples to see him in you and to receive your instructions as if he were instructing them. They must be convinced that your instructions are the truth of Jesus Christ, who speaks with your mouth, that it is only in his name that you teach, and that he has given you authority over them.
Prayer
Eternal Father, our lives are filled with much to do. It is easy to confuse our busy-ness for our purpose, making our concentration on tasks matter more than our attention to your presence. Slow us down. Calm our bodies, cleanse our hearts, and reassure our souls, so that, in sitting at your feet, we may rest in you and find our way again. May a spirit of simplicity guide our time each day. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
