Let us rememberSeventh Sunday of Easter

Intention: For vocations to the Brothers and to religious life, that women and men may hear and answer God’s call to serve his people as members of religious communities.

Today’s Gospel | John 17:1-11a

Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify you, just as you gave him authority over all people, so that your son may give eternal life to all you gave him. Now this is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ. I glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do. Now glorify me, Father, with you, with the glory that I had with you before the world began.

“I revealed your name to those whom you gave me out of the world. They belonged to you, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that everything you gave me is from you, because the words you gave to me I have given to them, and they accepted them and truly understood that I came from you,
and they have believed that you sent me. I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for the ones you have given me, because they are yours, and everything of mine is yours and everything of yours is mine, and I have been glorified in them. And now I will no longer be in the world, but they are in the world, while I am coming to you.”

From the Thirteenth Meditation for the Time of Retreat | Saint John Baptist de La Salle

You cooperate with God in his work, says Saint Paul, and the souls of the children whom you teach are the field that God cultivates through you. Because he is the One who has given you the ministry you exercise, when all of you appear before the judgment seat of Jesus Christ, each will give his own account to God of what he has done as a minister of God and as a dispenser of his mysteries for children.

Jesus Christ, having been appointed by God to be your judge, will say to you, as the owner said to his manager, Give me an account of your administration. He will then look into the very depths of your heart to examine whether you have been faithful managers of the wealth he has entrusted to you and the talents he has given you to work in his service. The good or the bad use you have made of these gifts will then become clear, for the Lord, who judges you, will unveil what is most hidden and most secret in the depths of your heart.

Prayer

Eternal Father, your Son’s prayer for his disciples was that they would be able to proclaim his good news, so that that all people might come to know you and believe. We pray that we might help to move our world closer to you. Teach us to see and love each other better, to wash away selfishness and sorrow from our lives. May we walk with one another into the light of your healing and goodness. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.

Saint John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts forever.
