Intention: For the spread of peace and justice throughout the world, especially where hearts have become hardened to God’s presence.
Today’s Gospel | Mark 16:15-20
Jesus appeared to the Eleven and said to them: “Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages. They will pick up serpents with their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them, was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God. But they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through accompanying signs.
From the Meditation on Saint Mark | Saint John Baptist de La Salle
Because you are bound to teach every day the doctrine of the holy Apostles and of Jesus Christ, you are obliged to learn it so well that you possess it perfectly and by this means make your students true disciples of Jesus Christ. Are you careful to learn thoroughly the holy maxims contained in this saint’s Gospel and to meditate on them often, so that you will be able to inspire them in those for whom you are responsible? Your primary concern for them ought to be to make sure that they grasp fully the doctrine of the holy Apostles, to give them the spirit of religion, and to make them practice what Jesus Christ has left us in the holy Gospel.
Eternal Father, it seems that we are always looking for you or waiting for you but, when you come to us, we refuse to believe it. Open the eyes of our souls, so that we may see that we are surrounded by your redeeming work. Teach us to recognize the sound of your voice and the touch of your hand on our hearts. Steady us to do your work with courage and zeal, seeing and enduring all things with the eyes and the spirit of faith. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
