Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Intention: For God’s blessing on this week’s Lasallian Student Leaders gathering, Lasallian Social Justice Institute, and Lasallian Volunteers Orientation.
Today’s Gospel | Luke 10:38-42
Jesus entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. She had a sister named Mary who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me.” The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.”
From the Meditation on Saint Alexis | Saint John Baptist de La Salle
You have a work that is honorable only in the sight of God because it seeks to spread his kingdom. Do you accept with joy the contempt that comes to you from people? The kingdom of God, which you serve and in which you hope, is not of this world.
Prayer
Eternal Father, your Son called us to build your kingdom. So often we spend our time trying to build our own kingdoms, caring only about what life is giving to us. Lord, open us to the truth. Help us to realize that only what fulfills your will is worthy of being built. May we seek first and always your kingdom, living as instruments of your love and peace. We ask this of you, who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
