“The relationships

[Jesus] forms with the people who approach him manifest something entirely unique and unrepeatable. The signs he works, especially in favor of sinners, the poor, the marginalized, the sick, and the suffering, are all meant to teach mercy. Everything in him speaks of mercy. Nothing in him is devoid of compassion.”

7With these words from Pope Francis in mind, the participants of FSC Days 2016 formed community, reflected on the Lasallian mission’s call to go beyond borders, and share in faith experiences. Sixteen young men participated in the four-day gathering. The gathering included Brothers sharing their vocation story in light of going beyond borders, a discussion on vocation at Saint Mary’s College, and a reflection on discernment as a conclusion.

During the time at Mont La Salle and Saint Mary’s College the young men had an opportunity to interact with the various Brothers’ communities.  This included time mass, social, and dinner with the Provincialate Community (Mont La Salle, Napa), mass, lunch, and a discussion with the Brothers at Saint Mary’s College (Moraga, CA), a social with the Holy Family Community (Mont La Salle, Napa), and an accompaniment walk with individual Brothers at Mont La Salle.

Contacts had opportunities for prayer and reflection with Brother Chris Patiño, FSC leading a prayer on Jesus’ question “Who do you say that I am?” Brother Michael Livaudais, FSC leading a prayer on “God’s mercy,” and Brother David Caretti, FSC leading a closing prayer service on being light to one another. In addition, participants had time for personal reflection and a Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament.

As always, the spirit of brotherhood was felt strongly among the young men as they continue to discern God’s call in their lives. One young man commented, “One of the reasons I find these retreats helpful is because we are free to truly be ourselves and still be appreciated and loved.”
