Pentecost Sunday
Intention: For all of the students who are graduating from Lasallian schools and universities, that they may be blessed with fulfilling and generous futures, living their lives as instruments of God’s loving and saving presence.
Today’s Gospel | John 20:19-23
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.”
From the Meditation for Pentecost | Saint John Baptist de La Salle
You carry out a work that requires you to touch hearts, but this you cannot do except by the Spirit of God. Pray to him to give you today the same grace that he gave the holy Apostles. Ask him that after filling you with his Holy Spirit to sanctify you, he will also communicate himself to you to procure the salvation of others.
Prayer
Eternal Father, through your Holy Spirit, you bless us with many gifts. Teach us how to discover and to best use your gifts. May we come to know and share our strengths, serving others and helping them to see their own many gifts. Help us to see our gifts through humble and faith-filled eyes. We pray that we always will be open to the guidance of the Spirit as we seek every chance to build your Kingdom. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.
