Today’s Gospel | Luke 11:1-4

Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples.” He said to them, “When you pray, say:

Father, hallowed be your name, your Kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread and forgive us our sins
for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us,
and do not subject us to the final test.”

From the Second Meditation for the Time of Retreat | Saint John Baptist de La Salle

Because you are ambassadors and ministers of Jesus Christ in the work that you do, you must act as representing Jesus Christ. He wants your disciples to see him in you and to receive your instructions as if he were instructing them. They must be convinced that your instructions are the truth of Jesus Christ, who speaks with your mouth, that it is only in his name that you teach, and that he has given you authority over them.

Prayer

Eternal Father, we thank you for your care and faithfulness to us. Thank you for answering when we call even when we are slow to answer you, for giving when we ask even when we hesitate when you ask of us, for always remembering us even when we are forgetful of you. Thank you for your grace, mercy, compassion, and steadfast love. We pray, soften our hardened hearts and open them to your presence. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Saint John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts forever.
