SMHS StoneMemorial of the Holy Guardian Angels

Intention: For the gifts of integrity, dedication, and compassion for all who serve as educators, formators, and caretakers of the young.

Today’s Gospel | Matthew 18:1-5,10

The disciples approached Jesus and said, “Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven?” He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said, “Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.

“See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.”

From the Meditation on the Holy Guardian Angels | Saint John Baptist de La Salle

We ought to fear nothing, then, under the protection and guidance of these angels of God, for, says Saint Bernard, they will not allow us to be tempted beyond our strength, and in situations that are too difficult and dangerous for us, they will bear us up in their hands, to enable us to surmount trials and difficulties without being harmed in any way. With what ease, then, you will overcome all that is opposed to your salvation, having the good fortune to be upheld by the hands of such defenders…Often pray also to the Guardian Angels of your students, so that under their powerful protection, your students may willingly practice the good you have taught them and do so with greater ease.

Prayer

Eternal Father, we are a people of faith, but sometimes our faith falters. We fail to understand that your power comes from compassion and love. Fill us with the zeal to seek your love, the grace to recognize your love, and the openness to share your love. Above all, make of us true disciples who strive to be ambassadors of your saving presence to one another, especially to those who are most in need of you. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Saint John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts forever.
