Signum Fidei 01Special from the Generalate.  Superior General Brother Robert Schieler, FSC, has announced that the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life has approved the revision to the Rule of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools.

Two Commissions for the Revision of the Rule began work in September of 2012 on a draft of the revised Rule.  The draft was reviewed and accepted by the Brothers at the recent 45th General Chapter in Rome.  A writing committee prepared the final version of the Rule that was then submitted to the Vatican for approval.

In his announcement to the Lasallian Family, Brother Robert wrote, “Due to the good work of these and many other Brothers, the revisions to our Rule seek to inspire our continual following of Jesus Christ and our faithful response to the calls of the Spirit and the charism of our Founder. We have consecrated ourselves to God to procure his glory by fulfilling “together and by association” our apostolic ministry of education. This is the joy of our mission.”

The announcement comes as Lasallians celebrate the Feast of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, Founder of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and Patron of All Teachers.  In his message for Founder’s Day, Brother Robert reminded Lasallians tp “add concrete and personal attention to young people who suffer the poverty of the peripheries. Regardless of a school’s socioeconomic environment, to be a truly contemporary Lasallian educational community it must go beyond its borders – physical, economic, social – and bring the Good News of Jesus Christ and a solid human education to those who are despised and discarded by society. In this regard, I believe all of us can do more.”

Preparations are currently underway for the publication and distribution of the revised Rule to all of the Brothers.
