SMHS StoneMonday of the Seventh Week of Easter

This Week’s Intention: For all Lasallian ministries as they recognize their graduating classes, that God may bless the graduates, continuing to inspire and guide them through all the days of their lives.

Today’s Gospel | John 16:29-33

The disciples said to Jesus, “Now you are talking plainly, and not in any figure of speech.  Now we realize that you know everything and that you do not need to have anyone question you.  Because of this we believe that you came from God.”  Jesus answered them, “Do you believe now?  Behold, the hour is coming and has arrived when each of you will be scattered to his own home and you will leave me alone.  But I am not alone, because the Father is with me.  I have told you this so that you might have peace in me.  In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.”

From the Fifteenth Meditation for the Time of Retreat | St. John Baptist de La Salle

God is so good that he does not leave unrewarded the good work that is done for him and the service that is rendered to him, especially for the salvation of souls. If it is true that God rewards so generously even in this world those who have left all things for him, that they receive a hundredfold in this life, with how much more reason will God reward even in this present time those who have devoted themselves with zeal to spread his kingdom!

…Oh, how fortunate you ought to consider it to be working in the field of the Lord, for our Lord says that the reaper will infallibly receive his reward!

For the future, then, be devoted with zeal and affection to your work, because it will be one of the most helpful ways to assure your salvation.

Eternal Father, there are times when we ask ourselves if we truly believe in you or not. Sometimes we wonder if we only believe because we need something or we want things to go a certain way.  Help us to have a faith that, like your love for us, is unconditional and binds us to you in trust.  Send us forth in confidence to do the work of building your Kingdom, living as signs of your saving presence to all, especially those who are most in need.  We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.  Amen.

St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts forever.
