Monday of the Fourth Week of Easter

This Week’s Intention: That all who serve in the ministry of education devote themselves to giving care and attention to every student, especially those who are most in need, by teaching their minds and touching their hearts.

Today’s Gospel | John 10:1-10

Jesus Christ IconJesus said: “Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever does not enter a sheepfold through the gate but climbs over elsewhere is a thief and a robber. But whoever enters through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens it for him, and the sheep hear his voice, as he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has driven out all his own, he walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him, because they recognize his voice. But they will not follow a stranger; they will run away from him, because they do not recognize the voice of strangers.” Although Jesus used this figure of speech, they did not realize what he was trying to tell them.

So Jesus said again, “Amen, amen, I say to you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture. A thief comes only to steal and slaughter and destroy; I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly.

From the Fourth Meditation for the Time of Retreat | St. John Baptist de La Salle

De La Salle IconBe convinced of what Saint Paul says, that you plant and water the seed, but it is God through Jesus Christ who makes it grow and brings your work to fulfillment. So when it happens that you encounter some difficulty in the guidance of your disciples, when there are some who do not profit from your instructions and you observe a certain spirit of immorality in them, turn to God with confidence.  Very insistently ask Jesus Christ to make his Spirit come alive in you, for he has chosen you to do his work.

Consider Jesus Christ as the Good Shepherd of the Gospel, who seeks the lost sheep, puts it on his shoulders, and carries it back to restore it to the fold. Because you are taking his place, consider that you are obliged to do the same thing. Ask him for the grace needed to procure the conversion of hearts.

Prayer

Prayer HandsEternal Father, you sent us your Son to be good and gentle shepherd, healer of body and soul. We pray that he will make straight the path before us and lead us to your pasture. As he helps those of us who seek to follow him, may he also help those of us who have lost our way, speaking words that will rouse us from our deafness. May he lift up those who are hurting upon his shoulders, easing their burdens and giving them peace. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts forever.
