Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children
This Week’s Intention: For a deep and abiding respect among all people for the sanctity and dignity of life.
Today’s Gospel | Mark 3:7-12
Jesus withdrew toward the sea with his disciples. A large number of people followed from Galilee and from Judea. Hearing what he was doing, a large number of people came to him also from Jerusalem, from Idumea, from beyond the Jordan, and from the neighborhood of Tyre and Sidon. He told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, so that they would not crush him. He had cured many and, as a result, those who had diseases were pressing upon him to touch him. And whenever unclean spirits saw him they would fall down before him and shout, “You are the Son of God.” He warned them sternly not to make him known.
From the Seventh Meditation for the Time of Retreat | St. John Baptist de La Salle
But Jesus Christ did not limit himself to entrusting to his Apostles the work of teaching catechism. He too did this work and taught the principal truths of our religion, as reported in a great number of places in his Gospel, where he tells his Apostles, I must announce the Gospel of the kingdom of God, because this is why I have been sent. Say the same thing, that this is why Jesus Christ has sent you and why the Church, whose ministers you are, employs you. Bring all the care needed, then, to fulfill this function with as much zeal and success as the saints have had in fulfilling it.
Eternal Father, there are so many things that are possible through you if we just take the time to come to you. Help us to see that our days are filled with amazing potential, and that we have the capacity to bring something unique and good into this world. Help us to be kind and patient to everyone, ready to serve with humility and respect. May we always be ambassadors of your presence and builders of your Kingdom. We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts forever.
