New Affiliate Sister Ann Marie Lustig, OP

In the second of two ceremonies, Sister Ann Marie Lustig, OP, was welcomed as an Affiliate of the Brothers of the Christian Schools on May 9th at Mont La Salle. The first celebration of affiliation was held on November 15, 2008, at La Salle High School in Yakima, Washington, where Sister currently works.

Sister Ann Marie first came into contact with the De La Salle Christian Brothers as a student at Garces Memorial High School in Bakersfield. After graduation, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Tacoma. In 1979, she began a thirty-year collaboration with the Christian Brothers. Her assignments included the Christian Brothers Retreat House in St. Helena; La Salle High Schools in Milwaukie, Oregon, and Pasadena, California; and finally her present work in Yakima. In her many roles as teacher, religious studies department head, master teacher, retreat guide and administrator, Sister Ann Marie has lived and promoted the Lasallian mission by her commitment to her faith, to social justice, and to the education of the young and poor.

Affiliation is an honor bestowed upon individuals who have supported the work of the Brothers of the Christian Schools with a particular understanding of and commitment to the Lasallian charism. The letter of endorsement to her affiliation speaks to this: “Over the years she has sought assignments, with the permission of her community, that aligned her with the apostolate of the Brothers. . . . She conveys a sense of the presence of God where people learn.”
