Three Lasallian Volunteers are wrapping up their educational service at LEO (Lasallian Educational Opportunities) in Oakland. Kristin Retzloff and Ashley Prevost, both second year Lasallian Volunteers, worked with students on a variety of subjects, including art. Katie Jann, a veteran of two years of previous service at De Marillac Academy in San Francisco, helped students in the computer area.
Continuing his volunteer work at the school is Kevin Kuczyinski. He will soon be joined by Ms. Kelly Towns, a recent graduate of Christian Brothers University in Memphis. Their dedication is supported by volunteers from Saint Mary’s College who tutor LEO participants.
In spite of a difficult economy, the LEO Center continues to make a difference in the lives of both young students and adults who attend its classes. Two upcoming graduates of Oakland Technical High School will attend the University of California, Berkeley, this fall. Their dedication, bolstered by the services of the LEO Center, has earned full scholarships for both. For adults, LEO offers help to immigrants from all parts of the globe, providing classes in English language, reading, and computer skills.
Dedicated sponsors of LEO’s work have provided nearly half of the funds LEO will need to continue, but the program must raise nearly $30,000 to meet its budget for this year. To find out how you can help, got to http://home.pacbell.net/leocentr/
