Prospective Board Members Attend Workshop

The recent Board Governance Training Workshop held at Mont La Salle from August 26th through the 28th saw a gathering of 14 board of trustee nominees preparing for service, a sitting board chairperson, and a Director of Institutional Advancement. Eight schools from the San Francisco District and one from the New Orleans-Santa Fe District were represented at the session sponsored by the Offices of Education of the Districts of San Francisco and New Orleans-Santa Fe.

Attendees were nominated by their respective schools’ boards of trustees to serve upcoming terms, but their appointments cannot be finalized until they have completed the workshop.

Boards of trustees of Lasallian school corporations are delegated to ensure the Lasallian Educational Mission. Over the two-and-a-half day orientation, attendees were introduced to the heritage of Saint John Baptist de La Salle and the De La Salle Christian Brothers. As part of their policy governance training, they studied the relationship of the board to the school, to the Lasallian Education Corporation, and to the District. Individual boards of trustees have written policies which guide them in monitoring the performance of the school’s CEO, thereby contributing to the excellence and stability of the school organization.
