God Is With UsChristmas Weekday

Intention: That with this new year will come a new spirit in all people as we discern how best to work together to heal our broken world by building the Kingdom of God.

Today’s Gospel | John 1:29-34

John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.  He is the one of whom I said, ‘A man is coming after me who ranks ahead of me because he existed before me.’  I did not know him, but the reason why I came baptizing with water was that he might be made known to Israel.”  John testified further, saying, “I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from the sky and remain upon him.  I did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘On whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain, he is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’  Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God.”

From the Meditation on Saint Genevieve | Saint John Baptist de La Salle

Be assured that the more you devote yourself to prayer, the more you will also do well in your work.  Because you are not able to do anything well for the salvation of souls, you must often turn to God to obtain what your profession obliges you to give to others.  For God, says Saint James, is the Father of lights, and from God every perfect gift comes down.  This includes everything that is given and is needed to procure our salvation. Earnestly beg of God this spirit of prayer.

Eternal Father, we often travel through life knowing that we have a purpose to fulfill, but are unsure as to exactly what it is.  Awaken us to the reason for our lives.  Help us to see our path more clearly and to accept our vocation with open hands and hearts.  Give us the voice to announce your good news and the will to build your Kingdom.  We ask this of you who lives and reigns with your Son and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.  Amen.

Saint John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts forever.
